Trying a Pelvi Menstrual Cup For The First Time

A year ago I decided to give the Pelvi Menstrual Cup a go, see if I could get a better “flow”

Like most women who are new to cups I was a bit nervous, and unsure about how this new menstrual care product was going to work out. Will it be easy to insert … will it actually work? The short answer is YES.

To help all newbies I’ve listed my experiences and tips.

The best way to master inserting a menstrual cup is to practice before you get your period, it took me about 5 goes to get the cup in a spot that was right for me. The easiest way for me to insert the cup is to roll it into a tight cylinder shape, squat and gently push it in, just like a tampon. At first the sensation does feel like something pushing against your vaginal wall, but after a few minutes you don’t feel it at all. Rest assure that the cup will not get stuck.

The first time I wore my Pelvi Cup was for a morning surf, I figured it would really put the Pelvi Cup to the test! Normally when wearing tampons I would have to change them every two hours and I would get cramps, so I expected a somewhat similar situation from wearing a cup. That was not the case, I wore the cup for 5 consecutive hours, and not one leak. You’ll be surprised at how much fluid one little cup can hold.

For me removing the cup is easier and less painful than removing a tampon. That’s because you don’t have the dryness and friction that you have when wearing a tampon.

If you need to change the cup in a public bathroom, it’s a good idea to have a backup clean menstrual cup. That way you don’t need to worry about disinfecting the used cup, you can just wipe it down and place it in the menstrual cup case and wash when you get home.

When it comes to the downsides of using a menstrual cup, there aren’t many. But the one thing to consider is that you have to be comfortable with menstrual fluid and washing a used cup. For most women that is not an issue, but for younger women new to the world of periods it can be a bit awkward.

If you are on the fence about trying cup, the best advice I can give is to just give it a go!
